There are two commonly used types of images: raster images and vector graphics. The first ones are are the most wide-spread and include JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP files which are generated by our cameras or by large public software such as Gimp, Paint or Paint Shop Pro.

Vector graphics are, as their name indicates, based on the use of mathematical vectors (arcs of circles or ellipses, line segments, Bezier curves). They are composed of geometric shapes of varying complexity which are cleverly nested.

Vectorization

Vectorizing an image consists in replacing the pixels composing it by vector shapes. The process requires great expertise to recreate all the details and nuances of the original image. The professional graphic designer will use its expertise on the geometric shapes, gradients, transparencies and overlays to re-create the image to duplicate.
